Successful Friend Day in San Juan Jose

News, Costa Rica

Meeting in Beré.jpgPastor Robert Barrantes, Pastor, “Brazos de Amor” (Arms of Love) Wesleyan Church, reports a blessed Friend Day held on July 8, 2006.  Around 400 people were present inside the church while volunteers were in charge of activities for more than 150 children outside!  Fifty-four people accepted Christ!
Pastor Barrantes says, “Our church is very motivated toward missions as well.  The week of July 17, we visited the indigenous area of the Cabecar Indians.  We met with a group led by Pastor Mario Cespedes with whom we have been working for years.  We preached from the Word, provided food and gave out hundreds of pairs of shoes for those who live in the area.”

Landslide Kills 12 Wesleyans

News, Mexico

On August 2nd, due to intense rainfall in the mountain region of ”Mazateca de Oaxaca” in the populated area of Monte Horeb Chilchotia, a landslide buried 12 people who attend “Los Peregrinos,” the Wesleyan church in the state of Oaxaca.  Every one of them perished.  Several victims were part of a Christian Mariachi music group who were practicing together in a house when the landslide occurred.  The pastor, Brother Julian Carmona, is unharmed.  Please pray for Pastor Carmona and the families of the victims as they grieve.  Pray that their Christian testimonies in the face of death will be a shining example to unbelievers in the community.  Pray for National Superintendent Martin Torres as he ministers to those affected by the tragedy.
